Hundreds of chefs gathered on the White House lawn today to launch "Chefs Move to Schools" an adopt-a-school program pairing chefs with schools in their local communities.
Chefs will work with teachers, parents, food service professionals and administrators to bring healthier food to schools and educate children to make better informed food choices.
The new program is part of First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" Initiative to end childhood obesity within a decade.
From the USDA release announcing the program:
The "Chefs Move to Schools" program, run through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will pair chefs with interested schools in their communities so together they can create healthy meals that meet the schools' dietary guidelines and budgets, while teaching young people about nutrition and making balanced and healthy choices.
