This month, a new episode premieres as part of the IUMusicArchive series—WFIU’s continuing collaboration with the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music to broadcast recordings of music performances from their extensive archives. Jacobs Legacy: Voice airs Saturday, November 9 at 5pm on WFIU2 and Sunday, November 10 at 6pm on WFIU.

Jacobs Legacy is a subseries of IUMusicArchive that explores the depth and reach of training at the IU Jacobs School of Music. In the first installment of the subseries, Jacobs Legacy: Voice follows the studies of notable alumni of the voice department through recordings from their time as students at the IU Jacobs School of Music. The voice department has produced numerous singers who have gone on to lead prolific careers and perform on the most prestigious stages in the world. The Musical Arts Center at the Jacobs School of Music boasts the largest collegiate opera stage in the country, on par with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Currently, the Jacobs School produces five fully staged operas a year. These operas provide professional training for voice students at each degree level, valuable experience not possible outside of major opera companies. The world-class voice faculty and robust performing experience give students opportunities not found at any other institution.

Hosted by Grammy Award-winning artist Sylvia McNair, Jacobs Legacy: Voice features recordings from McNair’s time as a student at Indiana University, as well as Lawrence Brownlee, Jamie Barton, Kyle Ketelsen, Elizabeth Futral, Ailyn Pérez, and Angela Brown.

Support for Jacobs Legacy: Voice is made possible by the Wennerstrom-Phillips Fund for Classical Music, established by Mary Wennerstrom, professor and associate dean emerita at the IU Jacobs School of Music.
