An update to WTIU viewers in Vigo County regarding WTIU channels carried on the Charter Communications (Spectrum) cable television system in Terre Haute:
WTIU has received written notification from Charter Communications (Spectrum) cable television that it will plan to re-launch WTIU on its system approximately 120 days following WTIU recommencing full-power broadcast transmission and delivery of a good quality signal to Spectrum’s Terre Haute receive site.
Charter Communications (Spectrum) Terre Haute has temporarily removed WTIU from its Spectrum cable television lineup in Terre Haute for:
Failure of WTIU to deliver a Good Quality Signal to the Charter Terre Haute headend facility
WTIU suffered severe damage to its transmission tower primary transmission line on December 30, 2019. WTIU immediately switched to a backup antenna and lower power transmission (as required by the FCC). This prevents WTIU’s over-the-air signal from reaching the Charter Terre Haute headend. Charter had to remove the WTIU channels until a stable good quality signal could be delivered.
WTIU immediately offered Charter temporary alternative technical solutions, at WTIU’s cost, until we could restore the primary over-the-air transmission signal at full power. Charter Communications’ field team has evaluated the primary WTIU proposal – mounting a high density WTIU antenna on the Spectrum Terre Haute tower – unfortunately determining it not operationally viable.
Meanwhile, WTIU is continuing its work to expedite restoring the primary WTIU transmission to full power, which is currently scheduled to be completed by May 31, 2020. Charter (Spectrum) Terre Haute will schedule WTIU to relaunch on its cable system approximately 120 days following confirmation of the good quality signal, therefore approximately September 30, 2020.
We will provide updated information on our website and our Facebook and Twitter accounts as it becomes available.
In the meantime, WTIU remains available via:
- Over-the-air antenna
- YouTube TV
- Satellite providers (Dish, AT&T, DirecTV)
And most WTIU locally produced programs and PBS programs are available via:
