Some parents hope restricting sugar in their children's diet will help alleviate ADHD -- and they're right, to an extent.
Parents don’t need studies to tell them junk food is bad for kids. But could a healthy diet be the best treatment for ADHD?
Not exactly.
A new paper released in the journal Pediatrics has studied the link between different diets and hyperactivity in children. Some popular diets have included elimination and restriction — avoiding items like preservatives and sugar.
However, before throwing out a healthy diet, doctors say a combination of healthy eating and medication can more effectively control ADHD than either one on their own.
That news is bittersweet — disheartening for parents looking for an alternative to medication, but encouraging in controlling hyperactivity for children.
