People who didn’t file a tax return with the Internal Revenue Service this year or last year still may be eligible for a stimulus check. A questioner to City Limits who didn’t have to file a tax return wondered how they would get a payment.
According to a FAQ on the IRS Web site, the IRS “will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 to generate Economic Impact Payments to recipients of benefits reflected in those forms who are not required to file a tax return and did not file a return for 2018 or 2019.”
This includes senior citizens, Social Security recipients and railroad retirees who are not otherwise required to file a tax return. However, the IRS would not have information about dependents for these people, so each person would receive $1,200 per person, without the additional amount for any dependents at this time
For those who aren’t in these categories, go to https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment to find out about eligibility and how to get your money. You can find a link for non-filers to receive payment by providing information so the IRS can find you. You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, have had a gross income that did not exceed $12,200 ($24,400 for a married couple) in 2019.
