Indiana University-Bloomington is receiving $12 million from the CARES Act, passed by Congress in March.
The school is still working out details on how students can apply for the money.
“The exact process for this will be made much more apparent in the next few days,” IU spokesperson Chuck Carney says.
All undergraduate and post-graduate students who were enrolled in Spring 2020 classes are eligible to receive the federal money.Students can use it on food, housing, tuition and other expenses.
“It’s really intended to help fill the gap for students who may be feeling the pinch, who may have lost a part-time job that they were counting on to help get them through that semester,” Carney says.
The money does not have to be paid back, and the amount of funding disbursed to each student would be based on their financial situation.
Carney says it’s still unclear how much money the other IU campuses will be receiving.
