Debra Morrow, the executive director at Middle Way House, says like many Bloomington organizations, they’ve had fewer volunteer available since Indiana University directed students not to return for the last half of their spring semester.
She says Middle Way’s direct service staff and volunteers who work do physical work are especially valued for their front-line efforts during the pandemic.
Anna Strout, a volunteer and program producer for Middle Way, and her husband, actor Jess Eisenberg, are among those working to help out during the pandemic, according to Morrow.
Strout is the daughter of the late Toby- who served as Middle Way’s executive director for 30-years.
“Jesse has even swept and mopped the floors in our transitional housing building,” Morrow says. “He’s helped out with repairs and maintenance.”
Strout and Eisenberg delivered plants to people’s houses during the organization’s Fern Sale in April, Morrow says. Both of them have helped with mulching outside.
“Anything that we need, if we ask them to help with, they’re always willing,” she says. “It has been greatly welcome to have their actual physical help in the work that we do.”
