Stepping Stones provides transitional housing and supportive services to youth between the ages of 16 to 20 who are experiencing homelessness.
Stepping Stones houses youths in group apartments; residents participate in an independent living program, which includes coaching for job skills, health and wellness, and financial counseling.
All residents are required to be enrolled in school or classes to attain their GED if they have not already done so.
Development Director Warren Wade says a common misconception about youth experiencing homelessness is that they choose to leave their families. “They’re 16, sometimes in high school and something tragic happens in their family that they don’t have the resources to respond to,” says Wade.
The ultimate goal is to prepare youth experiencing homelessness in Bloomington to live independently and securely in permanent housing.
