As a case manager I’ve often wanted to recommend books t the people i’m working with. but a lot of people don’t have the resourves to go and buy the books, or if they’re currently in an abusive relationship, they can’t bring the book into their home.–Erin Biebuyck, Women’s Advocate at Middle Way House
Pages for Change is a project of Middle Way House, a domestic violence and rape crisis shelter in Bloomington, Indiana.
The project’s mission is to get books on domestic violence and sexual assault in all 19 libraries in Middle Way House’s service area.
Pages for Change has launched a crowd-sourced fundraising campaign to raise a portion of the money needed to donate the books to the libraries.
The project’s coordinators developed a list of 20 books that they felt were key resources for people who are dealing with domestic violence and sexual assault. Some of the libraries will receive fewer books because they are too small too accommodate all 20 selections.
The coordinators write on their fundraising site that they chose these books because they “provide vital information about the tactics abusers use, why abusers behave the way they do, how to safely leave a violent or controlling relationship, how to recover from the mental and emotional injuries of domestic violence and sexual assault, and how to support a loved one who is a survivor of domestic violence or sexual assault.”
Pages for Change hopes to get the books in libraries by October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
