We are trying to reach adult learners in Morgan county so they can understand their own health conditions, [and] read their medial information; I’m working with a woman who wants to read better with her great-granddaughter. I hope [she] will be able to share books with her that she loved. —Mavis Smith, volunteer tutor.
The mission of the Morgan County Coalition for Literacy is to promote the rights and responsibilities of Morgan county citizens to be able to function at an adequate literacy level.
The Coalition recruits, trains, and supports volunteer tutors, who are paired with adult learners for weekly sessions. The Coalition also tutors people who are learning English as their second language.
