The Local Growers Guild seeks to educate and support farmers, and to help local food reach more people.
I’m a new grower, and I’ve learned more working around other farmers; I think the guild is a great place to connect new and old farmers. —Megan Hutchison, Manager
The Local Growers Guild is a cooperative of farmers, retailers and community members dedicated to strengthening the local food economy in Southern Indiana through education, direct support and market connections.
Through the Guild, growers large and small can take advantage of bulk ordering of supplies such as fertilizer and other supplies; the Guild also works to provide continuing education for farmers on topics such as irrigation, growing their operations, and more.
Although the Local Growers Guild doesn’t take a stance on legislation, according to manager Megan Hutchison, it does work to educate small farmers on legislation and policies that may affect them.
The Guild also publishes a Local Growers Guide every spring with information about how, why and where to buy local food. The Local Growers Guild also provides support for the Bloomington Winter Farmers’ Market, an indoor farmers’ market.
