Low Income Taxpayer Clinic- Earned Income Tax Credit

The Indiana Legal Services’ Low Income Taxpayer Clinic helps low income people resolve tax disputes with IRS.

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

Lots of people use their Earned Income Tax Credit to catch up on rent, to catch up on utility bills, to buy school clothes for their children… It kind of makes up for the fact that workers in the United States often don’t earn very high wages.”-Jamie Andree, Director of the Indiana Legal Services Low Income Taxpayer Clinic

The Indiana Legal Services- Low Income Taxpayer Clinic helps low income people resolve tax disputes with IRS.

As part of a nationwide effort, Indiana Legal Services is promoting awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for low income people. The tax credit adds money to a household’s refund.

Millions workers receive EITC refunds each year. On average, EITC adds twenty-four hundred dollars to a refund. But only 4 out of 5 eligible workers claim the EITC, leaving billions of dollars unclaimed.

Jamie Andree said, “We want to get the word out so that all workers eligible for the EITC file a tax return.  If you don’t file, you can’t claim the tax credit.”
