Wellspring Center

The mission of Wellspring Center is to provide emergency and transitional family housing for Morgan County families in an effort to end generational poverty.

We have a resident board that actually makes decisions…and they’ve worked very hard to create an atmosphere that celebrates one another’s accomplishments, and surrounds one other with comfort when there’s times of despair or grief. It’s an atmosphere that’s really a warm, welcoming, comfortable community.–Karen Burkley, Executive Director

The mission of Wellspring Center, or Wellspring Family Shelter as it is sometimes called, is to provide emergency and transitional family housing, accompanied by supportive services and training for Morgan County families, in an effort to end generational poverty.  In addition the serving Morgan County, Wellspring also serves the six surrounding rural counties.

Wellspring houses parents with children (single or married), and single parents who are pregnant or seeking custody of their children. In some instances Wellspring may be able to accommodate single adults without children. Families are housed in individual units, each with a bathroom and kitchenette with the goal of creating a stable environment for the parents and children.

In addition to housing, Wellspring offers a number of programs for residents, including adult education programs, life skills and nutrition classes, counseling, and student support services for residents looking to go back to school.

One of the unique features of Wellspring is their resident board, which helps to mediate conflicts, creates a community environment at the shelter, and has some decision-making powers.
