If you’ve been thinking about volunteering with an organization, summer is an ideal time to get involved. Organizations that rely on volunteers need the extra hands because many of their student volunteers are gone, and with fewer volunteers, it’s more likely that you’ll get the shifts and duties that you really want. Many organizations host summer volunteer trainings in the hopes of expanding their pool.
The Shalom Community Center, a day center that provides services for people without homes, has several upcoming volunteer trainings: Monday, May 16 from 2 to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, May 18 and May 25, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Click here to learn more and register.
WonderLab Museum of Science, Health, and Technology has trainings for volunteers on Tuesday, May 17 and Wednesday, June 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Registration is required.
Volunteers with Area 10 Agency on Aging help seniors remain safe and independent in their homes. They have an orientation on Friday, June 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. More information here.
Middle Way House, which provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, and employment programs for domestic violence survivors, requires a day-long training on domestic violence for all volunteers. There is an upcoming training on Saturday, June 18 from 9 to 5. Registration is not required. Click here to learn more.
Bosma Enterprises provides services to people, particularly seniors, learning how to accommodate a recent loss of vision. Volunteers help with outreach by providing information about Bosma’s programs. Bosma conducts two-day training workshops in Indianapolis, with one coming up on June 22-23.
