Stone Belt

Stone Belt provides support services and lifelong learning opportunities to people with developmental disabilities.

Stone Belt provides support services and lifelong learning opportunities to people with developmental disabilities.  Stone Belt’s mission is to prepare, empower and support persons with developmental disabilities and their families to participate fully in the life of the community.

Stone Belt programming is centered on a philosophy of full community participation and “dignified risk,” as CEO Leslie Green explains it.

With the understanding that employment is essential to adult life, Stone Belt’s community employment program matches individuals with disabilities to employers and job skills training. Stone Belt also operates a manufacturing facility that produces components for life sciences equipment, providing work for their clients at competitive wages.

The organization operates residential services in 11 group homes and supported living sites in Monroe and Lawrence counties, each of which aim to promote self-sufficiency. And to address the mental health needs of individuals with disabilities, Stone Belt operates the Milestones Clinic, staffed by two board certified psychiatrists.

The nonprofit has over 500 employees, making it one of the largest employers in Monroe County, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.  They serve over 2,500 clients through their various services.
