Monroe County United Ministries

Monroe County United Ministries is a non-profit organization that has been providing social services in Monroe County since 1939.

“The programs that we are able to offer run the gamut, and really have a very wide range of services and impact in the community.”

Monroe County United Ministries (MCUM)  serves working families and those in distress by assisting with emergency needs and subsidized childcare. MCUM has been providing social services in Monroe County since 1939, availing affordable childcare to working families and basic needs assistance to Monroe County residents in crisis.

Currently MCUM provides childcare on a sliding scale fee to children ages two to six.  The fee is based on a family’s size and income.

MCUM also provides emergency assistance to individuals and families in need of food, clothing, hygiene items, bus tickets, diapers, or financial assistance to prevent utility shut-off or eviction.

According to MCUM’s 2010 Annual Report (pdf), the organization distributed “enough food to make more than 44,000 meals,” and also “prevented homelessness for 124 households through rent, mortgage, and utility assistance.”
