Everything that happens at the food bank is volunteer driven. So without them we couldn’t do what we do.– Katie Haddad, Volunteer Coordinator of the Hoosier Hills Food Bank

Hoosier Hills Food Bank collects donations for organizations that provide free meals. Farms, grocery stores and school cafeterias contribute items that would go to waste. Hoosier Hills also holds food drives at churches, businesses and schools, and they grow organic vegetables in their garden.

“The mission of the Hoosier Hills Food Bank is to collect, store and distribute food to those who are ill or needy, seeking emergency food assistance,” says Katie Haddad, the Volunteer Coordinator.

At the food bank, volunteers organize the donations, and then agencies who distribute meals come in to choose what they would like. The food is either free or sold at 16 cents per pound.

“We act as a shopping facility for agencies in town who have feeding programs, such as food pantries, soup kitchens, low-income day care centers,” says Johnson. The food bank services over 100 agencies.
