Vision impairment can be one of the leading causes for why a child isn’t improving in education… – Jennifer Juszkiewicz, Membership Director

The Bloomington Lions Club is a chapter of Lions International. Their goal is to empower volunteers and provide service to their communities, but their most recognizable service is the vision screening service. The Bloomington Lions Club provides vision screenings to all school children in Monroe County.

Students test their vision by looking into a special box. Membership director Jennifer Juszkiewicz says, “It looks sort of like a really old, big Macintosh desktop.” The children look into the box to identify letters, and if the students are having trouble, the Lions Club volunteers refer them to have their eyes checked out by a professional.

The Bloomington Lions Club also raises money for non-profit organizations and scholarships for high school students. The scholarships are awarded at a large annual banquet.
