The Brown County Literacy Coalition provides programs to address the educational needs of both children and adults in the Brown County area. The Literacy Coalition has been providing GED classes in the Brown County jail for more than ten years, and now matches tutors with adults in the community for one-on-one GED preparation. The Literacy Coalition also offers after-school tutoring for children in elementary, middle, and high school.
The Literacy Coalition has a small waiting list of children across Brown County who need tutoring. These children have been referred to the Coalition by parents and caregivers, and the Coalition is looking for volunteers to work with these children.
In addition, junior high and high school students are referred by family and teachers for help in a number of subjects including developing writing, math, and research skills. Tutors can volunteer after school or can work with students enrolled in English lab classes at the local high school.

The Brown County Literacy Coalition accepts applications for tutors and matches tutors with learners all throughout the year, although the organization recruits tutors most heavily during the beginning of school semesters and the summer.
