State officials have approved a new coronavirus testing site for Monroe County.
County Health Department Administrator Penny Caudill says the news arrived Thursday night.
“Our public health coordinator is busy making those arrangements and finding a location for that site and that should be up and going by the middle of May," Caudill says.
Earlier this week, state officials announced a partnership with OptumServe Health Services to build 50 new testing sites across the state in the next two weeks.
OptumServe says it hopes to test 100,000 Hoosiers in the next 30 days.
"We're excited to be part of this initiative to get more tests done and stop the spread," Caudill says.
Caudill says she believes Monroe County was selected because a number of experienced health workers live in the area with all the proper resources available.
The new location will be decided sometime next week.
