Veterans Day is a national recognition of U.S. soldiers, honored every year on Nov. 11. Hoosiers around the state will honor veterans at events over the weekend.
French Lick
The American Veterans Traveling Tribute and Traveling Vietnam Wall is on the front lawn of the French Lick Casino. The 360-foot long, eight-foot tall wall is an 80-percent scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. It's covered in the names of all 58,000-plus people who died during the Vietnam War.
The wall will be open to the public from Nov. 9-12.
Friday, Nov. 10
Bloomington
Indiana University Bloomington will host a sunrise flag-raising ceremony at 7:25 a.m. at the Franklin Hall flagpole.
Indianapolis
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis will hold a flag-raising ceremony at 7:30 a.m. in the Taylor Hall courtyard.
IUPUI will show the film "Dunkirk" at the Campus Center Theater at 2 p.m and 7 p.m.
Lafayette
Purdue University will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony in the Union Great Hall at 11 a.m.
Indiana University East in Richmond will hold a ceremony and moment of silence. Noon to 1 p.m. at the Whitewater Hall flagpole.
Veterans Day: Saturday, Nov. 11
Indianapolis
The Indianapolis Veterans Day service will take place at 11 a.m. on the north steps of the Indiana War Memorial.
Shortly after the service concludes, the parade will kick off at 11:45 a.m. The route begins at Pennsylvania and Michigan before turning west on New York and moving five blocks north on Meridian. More than 80 units march in the parade.
IUPUI will host the event "Veterans Reclaim Armistice Day." The event includes an arts and resource fair and a panel discussion of veterans moderated by NPR host Steve Inskeep. The event is from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Fort Wayne
The annual Veterans Day parade and ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Terre Haute
The annual Veterans Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. The route follows Ohio Street to Fourth Street, then north to Wabash Ave., then east on Wabash Ave. to 12th Street, and finally north to the VFW on Veteran Square.
New Albany
Indiana University Southeast in New Albany will hold a bell ringing ceremony at 10:45 a.m. at the McCullough Plaza clock tower.
