Weather Updates: Winter Storm Warning Expires Sunday Morning

SATURDAY 9:00 P.M. UPDATE:

The winter storm warning continues until 7 a.m. Sunday for most of the WFIU/WTIU broadcast area.

Forecasters are predicting the potential for rain or freezing rain to mix in across southern Indiana counties tonight and Sunday morning. An additional inch of snow is expected over parts of the state tonight as well.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected with snow covered or slick untreated roads.

REPORTED SNOWFALL AMOUNTS:

Avon: 5.9 inches

Bloomington: 3.8 inches

Castleton: 7.1 inches

Fishers: 6.0 inches

Indianapolis: 6.3 inches

Kokomo: 6.5 inches

Muncie: 7.0 inches

Nashville: 6.7 inches

SATURDAY 10:00 A.M. UPDATE:

A winter storm warning takes remains in effect at midnight for central and southern Indiana until Sunday morning.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service are predicting 4 to 7 inches of snow with the potential for some rain or freezing rain to mix in across the southern counties during the afternoon.

The heaviest snow is expected to fall this morning through the afternoon hours. Light snow will continue into early Sunday morning.

Motorists should expect hazardous driving conditions. Owen Co. is under a travel watch - limiting travel to essential means only.

Early snowfall amounts:

Columbus, 4.3 inches

Martinsville, 3.8 inches

Stinesville, 5.3 inches

Terre Haute, 4.5 inches

Zionsville, 2.5 inches

FRIDAY NOON UPDATE:

A winter storm warning takes effect at midnight for portions of central and southern Indiana.

Forecasters are predicting 5 to 7 inches of snow along with minimal ice accumulations by Sunday morning.

The projected amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make for hazardous travel conditions.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says a full call-out of 200 yellow plow trucks is underway. Drivers will work 12-hour shifts until the snow ends.

Bloomington’s district will see 32 trucks heading out at 9 p.m. In Columbus, 29 plow trucks will begin patrolling highways at 10 p.m.

THURSDAY ORIGINAL STORY:

A storm system that’s expected to move into the state late Friday night and Saturday could bring four inches of accumulating snow.

A winter storm watch is in effect for the potential of hazardous travel conditions.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service say they’re not certain of the strength and path of the storm system. A chance of rain is also in the forecast for parts of southern Indiana Saturday.

A slight chance of rain and snow continues Sunday morning before a high of 36 degrees by the afternoon.
