Carol Rogers is the co-director of the Indiana Business Research Center at IU and opened the BECD discussion.
One big change for the area is employment, according to Rogers. Monroe County has had the highest increase in claims, with Morgan County following.
The region is made up of 5 counties - Monroe, Morgan, Lawrence, Owen, and Martin.
Sectors with the most unemployment claims are accommodation and food services, manufacturing, and then healthcare.
"It’s something that we’re going to be tracking closely over the next several months and probably years to see how this pandemic will wind up reshaping our economy," Rogers says.
Counties hit hardest by employment claims in the last four weeks have been Monroe with more than 5,000 claims and Morgan with more than 3,000.
