Sixteen more people have died in Indiana with coronavirus infections, giving the state 2,355 deaths of those with confirmed or presumed infections since mid-March, health officials said Wednesday.
Most of the newly recorded deaths happened Monday or Tuesday, but others happened as far back as May 24, according tothe Indiana State Department of Health.
The latest state statistics include 15 deaths of people who died with confirmed COVID-19 infections, bringing that death toll to 2,173. Officials added one more presumptive death, giving the state 182 fatalities considered coronavirus-related by doctors but without confirmation of the illness from test results.
An additional 339 COVID-19 infections have been confirmed across Indiana, the health department said. That boosts the statewide total number of confirmed cases to 38,337 since the first was recorded in early March.
And state health officials say that the 500 contract tracing jobs created by the state's partnership with tracing company Maximus have all been filled.
Monroe County's total case number is up by two, bringing the county's case total to 181. The Monroe County death toll is still 17 in total. Data provided shows 4,325 Monroe County residents have been tested.
Coronavirus in Indiana: by the numbers
38,337 people have tested positive for COVID-19, which is more than the combined populations of Seymour (pop. 19,357) and Shelbyville (18,898).
2,173 deaths have been reported, which is more than the population of Bloomfield (pop. 2,126).
320,094 Hoosiers have been tested by the state, Centers for Disease Control and private laboratories.
That’s nearly the number of people who live in Fort Wayne (pop. 264,052) and Anderson (pop. 54,788) combined.
That amounts to 4.8%of Indiana’s population of 6.732 million.
