Weekly Planner: Select Commission To Discuss School District 'Divorces'
Coming Up This Week
- Friday: “Divorces” (of sorts) are on the agenda when Indiana’s Select Commission on Education meets in the statehouse chambers. To be specific, the Commission will consider “the feasibility of establishing a process by which residents of a part of an existing school corporation may elect to disannex from an existing school corporation” to establish their own district or join another.
- Friday: Public comment closes on proposed changes to Indiana’s teacher licensing rules being considered by the State Board of Education after having been extended for an extra week. We’ve reported the REPA II proposal has concerned some of the state’s colleges of education and special ed advocates.
- Saturday (UPDATE): According to their Facebook event, a group of concerned members of the Purdue community will protest the university’s decision to hire Mitch Daniels as president.
What We’re Working On
- Did you hear something about a governor taking over a high-ranking post at a big university somewhere in the northwest part of the state? Yeah, we didn’t either…
- We have more coming on the above-mentioned teacher licensure rule changes. Check out our previous work on the story here.
- UPDATE: Kyle will be on Lakeshore Public Radio (89.1 FM in northwest Indiana) at 11:30 Central talking Mitch Daniels and takeover schools.
