Author Of Original 'Parent Trigger' Bill Defends Idea, Acknowledges Missteps

    Indiana is considering a change in state rules that would allow parents to vote for school takeover before current law obligates a state intervention in underperforming schools. Our friends at StateImpact Florida spoke with the author of the original “parent trigger” bill, former California state senator Gloria Romero.

    California was the first state to adopt a ‘parent trigger,’ which allows a majority of parents in a failing school to vote on a method to restructure the school. The bill is expected to be among the most contentious education issues of the 2012 legislative session.
