Report: Fort Wayne — Not IPS — Is Now Indiana's Largest School District

Indianapolis Public Schools is no longer the state’s largest school district, according to a report from WIBC. While Fort Wayne only lost 400 students from last year, numbers from the official “count day” Friday show IPS lost more than 1,500 students to other schools.

Two caveats: The numbers are reportedly “preliminary,” and IPS’ enrollment decline is a decades-long trend. More from the The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette:

An enrollment loss of nearly 1,500 students pushes Indianapolis Public Schools behind Fort Wayne Community Schools as the state’s largest public school district. Ray Steele of WIBC radio reported that IPS’ preliminary enrollment on Friday, the official count day, was 30,128. At FWCS, the preliminary enrollment figure is 30,622, according to spokeswoman Krista Stockman.
