Reporter Scott Elliott’s Get On The Bus blog has the story of how the companies tapped to take over four Indianapolis public schools will receive $15.3 million in state funding for their efforts despite drops in enrollment. (The companies had been expecting to lose money.)
“EdPower and Charter Schools USA… will be paid based on last year’s enrollment for the schools they will be managing, not based on the much lower projected enrollments for next year. That means $10.4 million to CSUSA and $4.9 million to EdPower for the period of July to December, whether those schools enroll 1 student or 1,000 students.” IPS officials expressed their concerns about the plan.
