Complaint Against Ritz Campaign Filed, Quickly Withdrawn

    An Indianapolis resident filed a formal complaint Tuesday with the Indiana Election Division against State Superintendent and gubernatorial candidate Glenda Ritz – but quickly withdrew his complaint. As we reported last week, the schools chief got into hot water earlier this month when her campaign submitted a finance report that showed contributions allegedly made outside the appropriate acceptance period. Ritz’s campaign has not yet commented on the withdrawn complaint.

    A complaint was filed but then quickly withdrawn against Glenda Ritz’s campaign for governor this week, alleging the Democrat violated a state law barring fundraising by statewide officeholders during this year’s legislative session. The complaint filed Monday by Benton Stovall, of Indianapolis, took issue with an initial campaign finance report submitted July 14 that showed Ritz received $8,150 in donations during the legislative session.
