    More private college presidents making $1 million or more – Chicago Sun-Times As the economy staggered, many private college presidents enjoyed modest raises and saw the ranks of those making at least $1 million swell from 33 to 36 in 2009, a new study shows. Included in the $1 million-plus list for 2009: now-retired Henry S. Bienen of Northwestern at $2.24 million, and Robert J. Zimmer at the University if Chicago at $1.27 million.     Ball State approves Portage charter high school, denies others Ball State University officially has given Neighbors’ Educational Opportunities the green light to open a charter high school in Portage. However, it denied the applications of three other Northwest Indiana organizations, saying their submissions were incomplete. New Vistas High School will serve students in grades nine through 12 who were not successful in a traditional high school. The adult-education school it replaces drew students from Lake and Porter counties. Rebecca Reiner, president and director of Neighbors’ Portage Adult Education, said everyone involved is ecstatic. “We have been granted the charter for the Neighbors’ New Vistas High School,” she said Monday minutes after contacting supporters of the high school.     Exclusive White House education meeting includes Kentucky, Indiana college leaders – Business First President Obama invited just a dozen higher-education leaders from across the country to the White House Monday to discuss college affordability, and both Kentucky and Indiana institutions were represented.
