The Daily Report Card: Ivy Tech Debt, States Defy No Child Left Behind, Schools Face Takeover

    East Central Region of Ivy Tech writes off bad debts | The Star Press | thestarpress.com The East Central Region of Ivy Tech Community College wrote off $861,966 in bad debts deemed uncollectible from students for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010.

    The Associated Press: More states defying federal gov’t on education law At least three states are vowing to ignore the latest requirements under the No Child Left Behind law in an act of defiance against the federal government that demonstrates their growing frustration over an education program they say sets unrealistic benchmarks for schools.

    6 IPS schools one step closer to takeover by state | The Indianapolis Star | indystar.com Six Indianapolis Public Schools moved another step toward becoming the first schools in Indiana to be taken over by the state for poor performance and turned over to be run by private companies or nonprofits. The Indiana Department of Education will announce today that Donnan Middle School and Arlington Community, Howe Community, Washington Community, Broad Ripple and Manual high schools did not improve enough on test scores to be removed from the list for potential state takeover.
