Education Week: Cheating Scandals Intensify Focus on Test Pressures The cheating scandal that has rocked the 48,000-student Atlanta school system was an egregious, but not entirely unexpected, byproduct of testing accountability pressures, many testing experts say. The reason: As long as test scores are used in any field to make decisions on rewards or punishments, including for schools or educators, a small percentage of people will be willing to bend the rules—or break them. First Days Back 2 School Project Still Needs Sponsors – MyWabashValley.com Two hundred students applied for this year’s First Days Back 2 School Project, and 150 still need sponsors. The program, run by the Covenant Cooperative Ministry, helps K-12 students from low-income households by providing new clothes, shoes and school supplies. “We wanted to boost the self-esteem, and to set the stage for those kids to feel equal to all other kids. We just feel that that gives them a boost, a real boost for the academic year,” said Rose Aycock, Executive Director of the Covenant Cooperative Ministry. (mywabashvalley.com)
