Mayor Greg Ballard seeks authority to take over IPS schools taken over by state – “If the move is approved at Wednesday’s state board meeting, it would expand the Indianapolis mayor’s quickly growing portfolio of schools, effectively making it larger than five of the 11 public school systems in Marion County in terms of enrollment.” Indianapolis Star
Ball State puts more rigor into charter renewal process – “Terry Spradlin, associate director for the Center for Evaluation & Education Policy at Indiana University at Bloomington, said Ball State worked with national charter school organizations to tighten its process and demand quality in the facilities. … Ball State has not been, historically, vigorous in that, he said.” The Times of Northwest Indiana
Munster eyes school referendum – “Sopko said Munster, although in the state’s top 5 percent academically, ranks 348 of 357 in per-pupil funding. Munster receives $4,750 per student, compared to the state average of $5,668 per student. Sopko said if Munster only received the state average, it would mean an additional $3.8 million a year, eliminating the need for the referendum.” Gary Post-Tribune
