Jay Hersey swam for Indiana University on the 400 medley relay from 1976 to
1978, earning a national championship on the 1977 team.
He swam the butterfly for each team and also collected sixth place finishes in 1976 and 1978.
In 1977, he also placed seventh in the 100 butterfly, led off the eighth place 400 free relay, and swam the second leg of the seventh place 800 free relay.
In 1978 Hersey placed eighth in the 100 butterfly.
