Gary Hall won championships in butterfly, breaststroke, and freestyle.
He won three Olympic medals in three different events in three successive Olympics. Hall won the silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley in 1968. In 1972 he took second place in the 200-meter butterfly. In 1976, Hall won a bronze medal in the 100-meter butterfly. In Montreal, Gary Hall was elected to be the American flag bearer for the U.S. Olympic team.
Hall was the first person to break the 4 minute mark in the individual medley.
His accomplishments at Indiana University are numerous. Hall was NCAA Champion in 400-yard individual medley in 1970; 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard individual medley, and 400-yard individual medley in 1971; 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley in 1972; and 200-yard butterfly, 800-yard free relay in 1973. He was a 23 time All-American, a member of 1970-73 NCAA Championship teams, and a member of 1970-73 Big Ten Championship teams.
