About The Our Town Project
The OUR TOWN television documentary series profiles Indiana towns, showcasing the history, founders, businesses, people, attractions, and characteristics making each town unique. Each program offers an armchair journey through time, showcasing the stories, people, and qualities that make each town special. The OUR TOWN series joins a large group of local WTIU documentary and television programs featuring the communities of south central Indiana – here are just a few examples: The Weekly Special, Hoosier Hospitality: Craft Beer, Spirit of Monroe County III; Saving Places: Preserving Indiana’s Architectural Heritage, Hometown: A Journey Through Terre Haute, Brown County Artists: Expanding the Legacy, and Columbus, Indiana: Different by Design.

The OUR TOWN series started in 2005, featuring Spencer, Indiana. In the beginning, the series started with one full time WTIU producer/director only, with support from Indiana University video students. That quickly changed, however, after the overwhelming success of the first program. As the series then took off, additional support and professional resources were dedicated to the production of each program, whereby today viewers and WTIU members have contributed greatly to the growth of the series. Viewer response has been tremendous for each episode, and WTIU has come to now rely on OUR TOWN programs to help serve our public broadcasting mission. WTIU encourages our viewers, members, and web visitors to continue supporting the station, so we may continue to feature new OUR TOWNs for years to come.
