Lyles Station is an historic African-American community located in Gibson County near Princeton. It was founded in 1849 by freed slaves Joshua and Sanford Lyles. The community is one of the last remaining African-American settlements in the state, and nearly half of the current residents are descendants of the original settlers. The community school was open from 1919 to 1958. The building was then left vacant for 40 years and nearly collapsed. In 2003, the restored school opened as a community center and interactive living history museum.
