We [have] contradictory attitudes—we express love and appreciation for animals, yet we [exploit] animals on a grand scale.

During Wayne Pacelle's tenure as president of the Humane Society of the United States, he has effected a range of corporate and policy gains on animal protection issues ranging from animal fighting to factory farming to horse protection.

Pacelle has testified before U.S. House and Senate committees on animal protection issues, and under his leadership, the HSUS has helped to pass more than 500 state statutes.

His books include The Humane Economy: How Innovators and Enlightened Consumers Are Transforming the Lives of Animals, and The Bond: Our Kinship with Animals, Our Call to Defend Them.
