Indiana Bicentennial Special

Left to right: Head shots of James Madison, Becky Skillman, Christian Freitag

This special edition of Profiles is the last of a four-part series celebrating Indiana’s Bicentennial and funded in part by the Indiana Humanities.

Last year Indiana celebrated its bicentennial with a culminating state-wide Ignite the Future event. As Indiana begins its third century of statehood, we offer a special program of interviews with members of the Indiana Bicentennial Commission, as well as others involved in the observance, who discuss the legacy and the future of the Hoosier state.

The idea [of the Bicentennial projects] was to help Hoosiers connect to other Hoosiers. To have a sense of being part of a larger community. Of having some sense of our past, and of connecting our past, our present, our future.

We hear from IU Professor Emeritus of History James Madison, author of Hoosiers: A New History of Indiana; Bicentennial Commission Co-Chair and former Indiana Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman, and Sycamore Land Trust Executive Director Christian Freitag.
