Noon Edition

Crime Novelist Michael Koryta

My storytelling approach is to start with an inciting incident and a character-that's really all I have in my head-and venture off into the darkness together . . . . I like to bring a conflicted character into the story, and try to take them out with some note of hope and redemption.

Michael Koryta is the author of eight novels, including Envy the Night, which won the Los Angeles Times prize for best mystery and was selected as a Reader's Digest condensed book.

His most recent is The Ridge, which James Patterson called "one of the scariest and most touching horror tales in years."

A former private investigator and newspaper reporter, Koryta graduated from Indiana University with a degree in criminal justice.

He lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Bloomington, Indiana.
