Noon Edition

Conductor Charles Latshaw

Conducting is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. It's the thing that no matter how hard I work at it, no matter how well I prepare a piece, no matter how well I think I understand a piece . . . I'll never be good enough. That really appeals to me.

Conductor Charles Latshaw has held previous staff conducting positions with the Vienna Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony, and Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Washington Sinfonietta, and Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra.

Latshaw has held the position of principal trumpet in orchestras in Ohio, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He has performed with jazz/big bands as a trumpet player, vocalist, and band leader. As an actor or singer, he has appeared with the Palace Professional Theater of Manchester and the New Hampshire State Opera.

An advocate of new music, Latshaw has premiered more than twenty new pieces for ensembles ranging from chamber groups and youth orchestras to full symphonies. His conducting performances on You Tube have been viewed over half a million times.
