Noon Edition

Childbirth Educator Georg’ann Cattelona

Birth began to be moved in the U.S. out of the home and into the hospital. Hospitals took over with birth and for many complicated reasons it's become more and more medicalized. So you see the need, then, for someone to come in and be that human touch, that person who's there in an emotional capacity for the woman.

As one of the founders of Bloomington Area Birth Services, Georg'ann Cattelona has guided its development as a resource for pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.

She currently oversees all programs and services, works with the Board of Directors to plan future activities, and spearheads fundraising efforts.

She is a DONA-approved birth doula trainer, a Lamaze-certified childbirth educator, and teaches prenatal yoga classes and Planning Your VBAC sessions.

Prior to her childbirth-centered work, she earned her Ph.D. in history from Indiana University.
