Alan Pierson is artistic director of the New York City music ensemble Alarm Will Sound, a twenty-member band known for its innovative performances of today's music.
Pierson began conducting studies while pursuing a physics degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a composition degree at the Eastman School of Music. He has collaborated with many major composers and performers, including Yo-Yo Ma, Steve Reich, Augusta Read Thomas, David Lang, La Monte Young, and Wu Man.
He has received a Tanglewood fellowship and has studied with Robert Spano, Stefan Asbury, Bradley Lubman, Gunther Schuller, and David Epstein. He has recorded for Nonesuch Records, Cantaloupe Music, Sony Classical, and Sweetspot DVD.
