Bees: Hives, Swarms and Honey

June 3, 2016: 44 percent of honey bee colonies were lost last year. People across Indiana are working to support the bee population with hives in their backyard. Not only do these hives support the eco-system, but they can provide added benefits as well.

Our experts discussed everything from the supposed effect of cell phone towers on bees to personal hives. They agreed that the easiest way to get to learn more about how to start your own hive or where your honey comes from is to go to your local beekeeping club.

The Next 100 Years

September 16, 2016: Leaders of the Indiana Bicentennial Commission recently unveiled a kind of road map for the Hoosier State’s next 100 years, called the Bicentennial Visioning Project. We talked about the challenges that Hoosiers will likely have to overcome in the future, and how they might prepare to face them.

Heroin Overdoses in the Midwest

August 26, 2016: A conversation about opioids such as heroin and the effects they are having on the community. Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia were among the five states with the highest rates of drug overdose deaths in 2014, while Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia were among 14 that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified with significant drug overdose death rate increase from 2013 to 2014.
