Growing The Hemp Industry

hemp crop

Business leaders and academics met Monday in Noblesville for a symposium on hemp, part of an ongoing effort to legitimize and kick start the crop in Indiana.

Despite legislators legalizing the growing of hemp last year, it hasn't taken off. Right now it can only be grown by researchers and universities.

This week on Noon Edition we spoke with three experts on what might be holding the crop back, and some of the diverse ways it can be used.

Our guests:

  • George Blankenbaker, Manager of Real Hemp and member of the Indiana Hemp Industries Association Board of Directors
  • Janna Beckerman, Professor and Extension Plant Pathologist at Purdue University
  • Alan Kimbell, member of the North American Industrial Hemp Council

You can ask questions each week by joining our live chat, following us on Twitter @NoonEdition or by calling in to the program at (812) 855-0811.

Noon Edition airs every Friday at 12 p.m.
