The Death Of LGBT Civil Rights Bills At The Statehouse

Legislators wrapped up the 2015 legislative session Wednesday.

Both those seeking LGBT civil rights and those looking for protections for religious freedom were disappointed on Wednesday when the last bill to cover either topic died on the Senate floor.

The heavily amended SB 344 was the final chance to have legislation covering the fallout from RFRA until next session.

Now lawmakers and activists are left looking ahead to next session as the debate continues. What's next in the battle for religious freedoms and civil rights protections?

This week on Noon Edition, we'll discuss why these bills never saw the Governor's desk, and if we can expect the legislation to make it further next session.

Our guests:

Senator Travis Holdman, R, District 19

Senator Mark Stoops, D, District 40

Brandon Smith, Statehouse Reporter, IPBS
