Brubeck Time

Dave Brubeck

Yes, the unusual time signatures. Yes, the pioneer of "jazz goes to college," helping to pave the way (in his own sweet way) for jazz education. Yes, along with Ellington and Armstrong one of the three wise ambassadors of American jazz in the Cold War era. Yes, the gateway jazz artist for suburban 1950s/60s America. Yes, perhaps the paragon of "hip to be square"; yes, your dad's jazz, and I mean that as a compliment. He brought superb jazz to many places both aesthetic and geographical. Yes, a wonderful human being. All of that and so much more... goodbye, Mr. Brubeck, from the world which you made a better, more musically delightful place.
