Vigo County Inmate Faces New Charges For Spreading HIV

31 year-old Isiah Benford of Terre Haute is being charged for not disclosing his personal health issues before having sex with three women.

A Vigo County Jail inmate is facing additional charges for infecting women with HIV prior to his incarceration.

Isiah Christopher Benford, 31, of Terre Haute is under investigation from the Indiana State Police for sixteen criminal counts including battery by body waste and violation or failure of carrier’s duty to warn.

According to the Indiana State Police, Benford is alleged to have had sexual relations with four female partners from September 11, 2003 through April 26, 2014 while failing to disclose that he had HIV.

Indiana law requires a person with AIDS, HIV or Hepatitis B engaging in “high risk activity,” such as sex, to warn other people about the potential risk to their health.

Benford has been incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail on robbery charges since April 26, 2014.

The Indiana State Department of Health, Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office and the Vigo County Health Department worked together on the investigation.
