Terre Haute Chamber Launches 5-County Economic Initiative

The order tells the city to reduce spending in the general fund and the motor vehicle and highway fund.

A new initiative aims to address the economic challenges facing five counties in the Wabash Valley region.

The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce is joining forces with Clay, Park, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties to launch West Central 2025.

Chamber Vice President Kristin Craig says they’ll assess challenges in the region and come up with strategies to address them.

As manufacturing jobs continue to move out of the area, Craig says she’s hoping to keep graduates from the area’s five colleges around. She hopes West Central 2025 will help with issues like retention.

“The goal is really to get people thinking about what we want our community to look like in the year 2025,” she says.  Additionally, she hopes to, “lay out an action plan to get there.”

In addition to retention, Craig and her colleagues also want to look at health, workforce development and quality of place.
