The DNR has collected samples from deer harvested the last two seasons, but this is the first time the department will test coyotes.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the number of urban coyotes has increased 15-fold since the turn of the century.
The Johnson County Animal Control says 30 residents have reported coyote sightings.
